Pope prays for migrants lost at sea

On 26 February, Pope Francis prayed for the victims of the recent tragedy on the Mediterranean Sea, where over 40 people lost their lives and 80 people were rescued.

The Pope also thanked those who helped with the rescue operations and those who provide support to people seeking refuge.

Thousands of refugees to be granted permanent visas

On 13 February, the Albanese Government announced that thousands of Temporary Protection Visa and Safe Haven Enterprise Visa holders will be able to transition to permanent Resolution of Status Visa to fulfil its election promise.

Resolution of Status Visa holders will be able to live, work and study in Australia permanently and access government settlement services, the welfare system and Medicare.

Asylum Seekers and Refugees Household and Livelihood Survey

A report from the Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea & Solomon Islands (CBC PNGSI) regarding the living conditions of the West Papuan refugees in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea is now available.

The report is a result of a survey, which was conducted in 2022, and CBC PNGSI’s involvement with the marginalised group in the last three years.
