NGOs Call for Urgent UN Response to Migrant “Pushback” Practices

In a joint letter addressed to all governments, The International Catholic Migration Commission and other NGOs emphasised their deep concern in relation to the practice of forcing migrants to return to the country they have fled without adequate assessment of their need for protection.

The NGOs called on the Human Rights Council to take urgent action and end such practices and ensure that States respect the principle of non-refoulement, which protects people from being returned to a country in which they are liable to be subjected to persecution.

Faith-Based Communities Urge to Stop Violence in Myanmar

On 3 June, a joint statement was released in collaboration with over 25 faith-based humanitarian actors worldwide. They vowed not to remain silent in the face of violence in Myanmar. They expressed deep concern that the violence has caused increased suffering and is triggering large-scale displacement.

“Since the events of February 01, 2021, we have viewed with deepening concern the mounting humanitarian needs and spiraling disregard for human rights that impact most heavily our most vulnerable sisters and brothers,” says the statement, an initiative of the Jesuit Refugee Service.

"Towards an even wider WE": One Church, one home, one family

In his new video, the Holy Father invites every baptised person to feel part of a single Church, a single home, a single family. The video contains the personal testimony of migrants who feel part of this “we”. Their experience of being welcomed in a parish shows that the dream of Pope Francis can be realized.
