Celebrating World Day of Migrants and Refugees

The Archdiocese of Adelaide celebrated the 109th World Day of Migrants and Refugees with Mass at St Francis Xavier Cathedral on Sunday 24 September 2023.

This annual multicultural Mass is a feature on the diocesan calendar drawing more than 250 people from parishes and communities across Adelaide to come together to the Eucharistic Table celebrating the unique fabric of our multicultural Church.

Migrating women workers are vulnerable

The Australian Embassy to the Holy See and ACRATH launched the 16 Days of Activism on November 25 - the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The focus is on women migrant workers who are susceptible to exploitation.

ACRATH’s executive officer, Christine Carolan, was in Rome alongside Chiara Porro, the Australian Ambassador to the Holy See, for this significant launch. Chiara and Christine emphasised “The social justice challenge is global; vulnerable workers are on the move right across the planet. So global solutions must be sought, and global justice-focused alliances must be built and strengthened.”

Catholic Immigration Office (CIO) Directors Meeting

Catholic Immigration Office (CIO) Directors convened in North Sydney recently to discuss the prevailing situation of migrants and refugees in local communities. During the meeting, members exchanged valuable insights, recommendations and experiences about successful initiatives.

The conversation covered successful programs for helping migrants settle in, and also addressed the difficulties they face and suggested solutions. This collaborative gathering aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the issues at hand and facilitate a mutual effort towards addressing the needs of migrants and refugees in our communities.

We are excited to announce that the ACMRO will be hosting a national conference on 18-19 July 2024 at the Australian Catholic University Melbourne Campus.

The aim of the conference is to raise awareness and provide pastoral support to seasonal workers in Australia.
