Speakers
The keynote speakers for the conference are Cardinal Fabio Baggio CS, Under-Secretary of the Dicastery for Integral Human Development, and Dr Trudy Dantis, Director of the National Centre for Pastoral Research at the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference.
Canberra and Goulburn Archbishop Christopher Prowse, Chair of the Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry, will be leading the panel discussion, and Bunbury Bishop George Kolodziej SDS will address the participants during the conference dinner.
About the Conference
Migrant Communities in a Synodal Church — The aim of the conference is to acknowledge and celebrate the faith, gifts, contributions, and resilience of migrant communities, as well as the richness they bring to the church in Australia and wider society. It will also give particular attention to the dynamic role of migrant communities within a synodal Church.
The Church, together with migrant communities, is called to continue moving toward new horizons of encounter and grace. The Church is invited to go to previously unventured places and to discern the presence of the Holy Spirit in places where grace has not yet been recognised. This pilgrimage reflects the perennial journey of God’s people as they steadily seek the Kingdom, trusting that the Spirit goes before them and accompanies them in every land and culture.
Such a journey embodies the hope entrusted to all humanity, and it finds a particular expression in the lives of migrants and refugees, whose own experiences of displacement and renewal reveal, in a privileged way, the mystery of God’s saving presence in the world.
To further illuminate these aims, the conference will focus on the following three sub‑themes:
